SABUMI Foundation is an independent grassroots NGO. We operate at the vital intersection of Eco-Justice, Territorial Justice, and Social Inclusivity. Our mission is to bridge local indigenous wisdom with global climate governance to ensure a sustainable future that is rooted in the protection of community land tenure and the defense of critical carbon sinks.
The Philosophy: A Local-Global Perspective
Salingka (Local)
Derived from the Adat Salingka Nagari philosophy, it emphasizes our commitment to territorial sovereignty and communal law. We believe environmental advocacy must begin by honoring the boundaries of the people’s managed areas.
Bumi (Global)
We are committed to the safety of our planet. We translate field-level data into macro-policy arguments, ensuring that global climate investments and green initiatives prioritize local justice.
Barisan (Movement)
Represents the organized solidarity of grassroots movements, protecting the critical Bukit Barisan landscape—a key ecological stronghold stretching across Sumatra.
