However, the global demand for a Green Transition poses a paradoxical threat of “green-grabbing.” SABUMI Foundation operates as a strategic partner to safeguard these macro assets equitably:
Green Carbon
Immense carbon reserves stored within the tropical rainforest vegetation of the Bukit Barisan mountain range.
Blue Carbon
High coastal carbon sequestration potential through mangrove, seagrass, and wetland ecosystems along the western coast of Sumatra.
4 Core Climate Programs
1. FOLU Sector & Agrarian Justice
Focus: Green Carbon
Participatory mapping of indigenous territorial boundaries (Salingka Nagari), securing community land tenure rights, and legal advocacy against agrarian conflicts and the destruction of forest carbon reserves.
2. Blue Carbon & Coastal Resilience
Focus: Coastal Resilience
Inclusive restoration and protection of mangrove and seagrass ecosystems alongside traditional fishing communities to mitigate extreme weather threats.
3. Just Green Transition
Focus: Just Energy Transition
Monitoring large-scale renewable energy projects (geothermal, hydro, solar), strictly enforcing Free, Prior, and Informed Consent (FPIC), and promoting community-based clean energy.
4. Circular Economy & Food Security
Focus: Sustainable Agriculture
Developing agroforestry (e.g., coffee/cacao under forest canopies) and low-emission organic farming managed by indigenous women and youth groups to break extractive dependencies.
The Salingka Landscape Intervention Model
Our spatial intervention model is divided into 4 holistically integrated working zones from upstream to downstream.

Upstream / Forest
Implementing Pillar 1 to protect protected forest cover and customary forests along the Bukit Barisan range.
ZONE 2
Buffer / Agriculture
Implementing Pillar 4 through the implementation of organic farming and communal agroforestry systems.
ZONE 3
Infrastructure
Implementing Pillar 3 as an instrument for monitoring the governance of regional renewable energy projects to ensure they are free from agrarian malpractice.

Implementing Pillar 2 through restoration activities of mangrove and seagrass ecosystems along the coastline.
